Practical guide
How to Remove PDF Metadata
Clear supported PDF metadata in a browser-local workflow.
Start with a copy
Keep the source PDF untouched and work from a duplicate. Open the duplicate in this tool, review every reported field, and note any author, software, title, subject, keyword, or date value that should not travel with the document.
Clear and verify
Create the metadata-cleared copy, then compare the before-and-after tables. Download the new file only after every supported field is shown as not present and the page count still matches the original.
- ✓ Keep the original
- ✓ Inspect the copy
- ✓ Create and download the cleaned copy
- ✓ Open it again and verify
Know what remains
This workflow does not remove visible names, comments, attachments, scripts, or every possible XMP or object-level remnant. It is not redaction or anonymization, and saving a modified PDF can invalidate digital signatures.
